Zoo Travel Fun
Our family loves to do zoo travel. For us zoo travel is any trip that we take with the purpose and intention of visiting a new zoo. We joined a zoo that had a reciprocating membership (you join one zoo and dozens of zoos across the country let your family visit for free) and that saved us thousands of dollars over the years of raising our six children. We started when our oldest daughter was just a year old and our first zoo travel was the National Zoo in Washington DC. We were living in Philadelphia at the time and so we did not count the trip to the local zoo as zoo travel, but many more were to come. When we moved to remote Alaska, we did our first zoo travel outside of the continental United States to the Anchorage Zoo (the smallest and least favorite but only option in Alaska - mostly Alaskan wild life which we had seen more of during our drive to Anchorage then we saw at the zoo).
Our zoo travel has included trips to Como Zoo and the Minnesota Zoo in the Twin Cities. We have had several trips of zoo travel to the Des Moines Zoo in Iowa. Perhaps our favorite zoo was the Omaha Zoo in Nebraska unfortunately we didn't plan enough time to complete the tour of the whole zoo. We have also been to the Point Defiance Zoo in Tacoma and the Woodland Park Zoo in Seattle. We had a horrible experience at the Kansas City Zoo but that was weather related on a day that was a hundred degrees and humidity very high. We have also been to the Family Zoo in Columbia SC. Zoo Travel became a favorite way for our family to spend time together.
